Practical experience

To provide you with the opportunity to receive practical experience in a range of areas of event production, the College will manage a calendar of activities that will incorporate real-time events.

It is essential that you are able to show future employers a keen aptitude for planning, running and participating in a range of events and to ensure that you gain these skills, practical events experience is a core component of our courses.

Practical experience is offered in two forms.

1) Assessed events on-campus (required practical experience)

  • You’ll be working in teams to manage a variety of real events on-campus.
  • Your contribution is graded as part of your course.
  • Events include: Design exhibitions, graduations, student social events and open days.
  • At least 100 hours of your course is spent producing these events.

2) Off-campus, voluntary experience

  • Gain real-life experience by volunteering for exciting external events.
  • These experiences add enormous weight to your CV and will impress future employers.
  • Subject teachers will let you know of opportunities as they arise.
  • Examples include: concerts, conferences, sporting and community events, expos and parties.
  • Please note: participation in external events is not compulsory but is strongly recommended

Job placement and unpaid internships are not guaranteed and are not required as part of the course. The availability of these opportunities will vary depending on the time of year, the campus a student attends and a student’s suitability for the positions available.
