This 50 week pathway program is comprised of 2 courses:
- Diploma of IT (Systems Administration)
- Certificate IV in IT (General)

The Diploma of Information Technology (Systems Administration) delivered at Martin College focuses on systems administration, which can lead to many rewarding career paths in the IT industry.

  • Develop proficiency in the use of computers and computational techniques to develop effective information systems that solve real world problems. 
  • Learn to build and configure a server in line with enterprise requirements.
  • Develop skills and knowledge in network administration as well as systems security.
  • Learn the latest technologies in Martin College’s computer labs.
  • Transfer to a degree with up to 1½ years credit 

Degree Transfer

Successful completion of the Diploma of Information Technology (Systems Administration) offers the following credit transfer options:

  • 1½ years credit transfer to Charles Sturt University Bachelor of IT
  • 1 year credit transfer to Griffith University Bachelor of IT
  • 1 year credit transfer to QUT Bachelor of IT
  • 7 subjects towards the Bachelor of Information Technology at CQU
  • 8 exemptions into the USQ Bachelor of Information Technology

Professional Recognition

On achievement of a Diploma level qualification, Martin College graduates can apply for provisional associate membership of the Australian Computer Society >

Industry and jobs

The information and communications technology (ICT) sector spans a diverse range of businesses in areas from computer hardware and software, networking and communications to the Internet, telecommunications, multimedia and more. A career in the ICT industry will involve working with organisations to develop and improve technology solutions which address their business and information needs.  Much of the work in ICT requires people who can design and deliver IT solutions which improve business efficiency and productivity. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include: IT Manager, Systems Administrator, Intranet Administrator.

Awards

Graduates of the Diploma of Information Technology program receive the two nationally accredited awards: ICA50305 Diploma of Information Technology (Systems Administration); ICA40105 Certificate IV in Information Technology (General).

Students who have not completed a Certificate II in IT and who are not able to demonstrate equivalent skills to a Certificate II in IT will also take the subjects: Operate Computing Packages, Integrate Business Applications, Operating Systems and Hardware, IT Work Environment, Work with Colleagues and Customers, Workplace Safety.

Entry Requirements


Entry to the Diploma of IT (Systems Administration) packaged program requires ONE of the following:

  • Completion of Australian Year 11 OR overseas equivalent, OR
  • Vocational experience in a range of work environments in IT support roles but without a qualification.

This course has assumed ICT knowledge and skills that are in line with the learning outcomes from the Certificate II in IT OR Australian Year 10 computing subjects.  Students who do not have these competencies will take these subjects within the Certificate IV in IT free of charge.
