The Certificate IV in Information Technology delivered at Martin College offers an excellent entry qualification to get you started in a career in the IT industry on graduation.

  • Develop proficiency in the use of computers and computational techniques to develop effective information systems that solve real world problems
  • Develop communication and teamwork skills which are relevant to employment in the IT industry
  • Learn skills in networking, webpage authoring and Java
  • Learn the latest technologies in Martin College’s computer labs
  • Upgrade to the Diploma of IT (Systems Administration) with credit

Industry and jobs

The information and communications technology (ICT) sector spans a diverse range of businesses in areas from computer hardware and software, networking and communications to the Internet, telecommunications, multimedia and more. A career in the ICT industry will involve working with organisations to develop and improve technology solutions which address their business and information needs.  Much of the work in ICT requires people who can design and deliver IT solutions which improve business efficiency and productivity. Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include: Customer Support, Help Desk, Network Support Technician, PC Support, and ICT Sales Representative.

Students who have not completed a Certificate II in IT and who are not able to demonstrate equivalent skills to a Certificate II in IT will also take the subjects: Operate Computing Packages, Integrate Business Applications, Operating Systems and Hardware, IT Work Environment, Work with Colleagues and Customers, Workplace Safety

Entry Requirements



Entry to the Certificate IV in IT requires ONE of the following:

  • Completion of Australian Year 11 OR overseas equivalent, OR;
  • Vocational experience in a range of work environments in IT support roles but without a qualification.

This course has assumed ICT knowledge and skills that are in line with the learning outcomes from the Certificate II in IT OR Australian Year 10 computing subjects.  Students who do not have these competencies will take these subjects within the Certificate IV in IT free of charge.
